We practice a PACE Understanding the PACE Model (bmindfulpsychology.co.uk) led approach into a child/young person’s world. PACE is a trauma informed approach developed by Clinical Psychologist Dan Hughes which is centred around building safe, trusting and meaningful relationships with children and young people that have experienced trauma or attachment difficulties. PACE provides opportunities for adults to build on their attachments with children, by communicating and interacting in a way which helps children and young people feel safe. PACE stands for Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity and Empathy.
All mentees complete in unison a pre-evaluation form and subsequent 10-week evaluations to track their emotional understanding and stability levels. The evaluation forms are completed to track any progress, development or decline encompassing what has taken place highlighting any marginal improvements or decreases in particular areas over time.
Also on the pre-evaluation form are questions linked to ‘Outcomes/Changes hoped for as part of the opportunity’ and ‘Hobbies, Interests, and Personal Strengths’ the answers provided can determine what particular areas of the life we focus on in their sessions.
Sessions could involve a version of listening and talking, role plays, and also practical endeavours to build up their frames of reference and resilience.
The sessions are a version of the walk, talk and play method giving the young person autonomy in where the session leads with guided support and encouragement.
